Rochester girls tennis draws Culver Academy

Girls tennis

The Rochester girls tennis team drew Culver Academy and will meet the Lady Eagles in the sectional semifinals at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at Knox.

North Judson drew Knox in the other semifinal.

The winners meet at 5:30 p.m. Thursday in the sectional final.

Culver Academy won the two most recent sectional titles in 2018-19.

Northfield 4, Rochester 1 (Thursday): Ryli Rouch won a three-setter at No. 3 singles to account for the Lady Zs lone point in a home Three Rivers Conference loss to Northfield Thursday.

Rouch lost the second set to Meredith Haupert but bounced back to win the final set 6-3.

Hannah Houston and Kim Banic lost in straight sets at Nos. 1 and 2 singles, respectively. Molly Conley and Kylie Houston lost in straight sets at No. 1 doubles.

Lilli Eaton and Carli Richard won the first set at No. 2 doubles but eventually lost in a third-set tiebreak.

Rochester finished the regular season 2-9 overall and 2-5 in the TRC.

Northfield also won the JV match 3-2. Makenna Beall and Kaedra Shook won singles matches for RHS.

Lola Brady-Elizabeth Weaver (RHS) lost 8-3.

Carley Hott-Taylor Howard (RHS) lost 6-4.

Maconaquah 5, Rochester 0 (Wednesday): Hannah Houston won a set at No. 1 singles, but the Rochester girls tennis team was swept in a TRC road match at Maconaquah Wednesday.

Houston won the first set against Brooke Borden 7-5 before Borden won the second set and a 10-point tiebreak that served as the third set.

Kim Banic and Ryli Rouch combined to win six games at Nos. 2 and 3 singles, respectively.

Molly Conley and Kylie Houston lost in straight sets at No. 1 doubles, and Lilli Eaton and Carli Richard lost in straight sets at No. 2 doubles.

RHS falls to 2-8 overall, 2-4 TRC.

Maconaquah also won the JV match 4-2. Makenna Beall won a singles match, and Lola Brady and Elizabeth Weaver went 1-1 in a pair of doubles matches.

Whitko 3, Rochester 2 (May 7): Hannah Houston won in straight sets at No. 1 singles, and Ryli Rouch won in three sets at No. 3 singles, but the Rochester girls tennis team dropped a TRC road match to Whitko May 7.

Kim Banic lost in straight sets at No. 2 singles.

Molly Conley and Kylie Houston won the first set but lost the last two sets at No. 1 doubles. Lilli Eaton and Carli Richard lost 6-4, 7-6 at No. 2 doubles.

Rochester fell to 2-7 overall and 2-3 in the TRC.

Whitko also won the JV match 4-0.

Softball

Warsaw 9, Rochester 3 (May 8): Emma Howdeshell, Kallie Watson and Mya Musselman had two hits each for Rochester in a road loss to Warsaw May 8.

Sydney Haughs had a triple and two RBIs.

Maddie Heinzmann, Kylie Coleman and Emma Sells had one hit each.

Haughs allowed 15 hits and nine earned runs in the circle. She walked none and struck out three.

Natalya Holder and Makayla Holder had three hits each for Warsaw. Lauren Eastwood had a double and a homer.

Tori Tackett struck out 12 for the Lady Tigers.

Warsaw scored three runs in the second to take the lead for good.

Baseball

Rochester JV at Peru, canceled: The Rochester-Peru JV football game scheduled for Thursday has been canceled.

The Winamac-Rochester JV game scheduled for Saturday was also canceled due to the varsity’s need to make up a conference game.

The Rochester-Whitko JV game scheduled for May 4 was also canceled.

The Zebra JV will compete in a JV tournament at Lewis Cass at 11 a.m. Saturday.
