Rochester senior Payton Moore signed with IU Kokomo to continue her golf and academic careers.
Moore made the all-Three Rivers Conference team each of the last three years, and she was a member of this year’s Lady Z team that won the conference title.
She said that IUK coach Brandi Moore had seen her play in some of her summer tour events.
“She said academics come first, and that has always been a big motto for me,” Moore said.
She said she also loved the “atmosphere” and the small campus.
She said watching her sister Molly, an eighth-grader who might take her place on the varsity next year, reinvigorated her desire to play collegiately.
“I’ve always thought it was a real possibility,” Moore said. “You just have to work hard enough. I started wanting to play last summer, and it kind of went away, but then it came back when I saw my sister playing, and I missed the competition. .. It’s always been in the back of my mind, but it really came out then.”
Moore said she wants to be on the pre-law track and also get a degree in business marketing. She said her dream job is to be a corporate lawyer.
