Rochester sports brief: Drake adds Bearss to coaching staff

Drake University has named Anna Bearss to its cross-country and track coaching staffs.

Bearss will be the associate head cross-country coach and assistant track field coach for distance.

Bearss had been the head women’s cross-country coach and assistant track and field coach at Akron University in Ohio since September 2021.

She also has previous coaching experience at Bradley, South Dakota State and Indiana State.

Bearss received a bachelor’s degree from Indiana State in 2018 and a master’s degree in sociology from South Dakota State in 2021.

“This opportunity is truly an honor,” Bearss said in a statement. “I’m excited to join a program that’s not only backed by rich history and tradition but one that is gaining momentum and has high standards set as we look to the future.”

Bearss is a 2014 Rochester grad. She was a four-time state qualifier in cross-country in high school and a state qualifier in track in the 3,200 meters in 2014.
