Rochester sports briefs: Boys tennis falls to Manchester after wins over Valley, Whitko

Girls soccer beats Manchester, Bremen on road; boys soccer vs. Bremen moved to Bremen, postponed to Saturday

Boys tennis

Rochester at Northwestern, canceled: The Rochester-Northwestern boys tennis match scheduled for Wednesday was canceled due to rain.

Logansport at Rochester, canceled: The Logansport-Rochester boys tennis match scheduled for Monday was canceled due to rain.

Manchester 3, Rochester 2 (Sept. 16): Brock Bowers won without yielding a game at No. 2 singles, and Robert Bozzo and Jake Freeman won at No. 2 doubles for Rochester in a road loss to Manchester.

Brayden Zink lost in straight sets at No. 1 singles, and Drew Strasser lost in straight sets at No. 3 singles.

Tanner Reinartz and Cody Smith lost 6-3, 6-4 at No. 1 doubles.

Rochester fell to 7-4 overall and finished Three Rivers Conference play 3-3.

The match started on Sept. 7 and suspended due to inclement weather before being resumed on Sept. 16.

Robert Bozzo-Jake Freeman (RHS) def. Calvin Brown-Sam Hupp (MAN), 6-0, 7-5

Rochester 3, Whitko 2 (Sept. 15): Brock Bowers won in straight sets at No. 2 singles, and the host Zebras also swept both doubles matches in a home win over Whitko Sept. 15.

Bowers win 6-1, 6-2.

Tanner Reinartz and Cody Smith won 6-4, 6-2 at No. 1 doubles. Jake Freeman and Luke Hunting won 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2 doubles.

Brayden Zink lost to David Ousley in straight sets at No. 1 singles, and Drew Strasser lost to Blake Schroeder in straight sets at No. 3 singles.

Maconaquah 3, Rochester 2 (Sept. 11): Robert Bozzo and Jake Freeman won in straight sets for the host Zebras at No. 2 doubles in a home TRC loss to Maconaquah on Sept. 11.

Rochester’s Drew Strasser also won the No. 3 singles match by default.

Brayden Zink and Brock Bowers lost at Nos. 1 and 2 singles, respectively. Tanner Reinartz and Cody Smith lost at No. 1 doubles in straight sets.

Hayden Maiben (MAC) def. Brock Bowers (RHS), 6-2, 6-0

Drew Strasser (RHS) won by default.

Robert Bozzo-Jake Freeman (RHS) def. Hayden-Smitley (MAC), 6-4, 6-1

Boys soccer

Bremen at Rochester, ppd.: The Bremen-Rochester boys soccer game scheduled for Thursday was postponed to 10 a.m. Saturday and moved to Bremen. No reason was given for the postponement or the move.

Peru 3, Rochester 2 (Sept. 13): Adam Maroney and Zach Pickens each scored a goal for the visiting Zebras in a loss to conference rival Peru Sept. 13.

Layne Backus and Aidan Smith each had an assist.

Conner Shaffer scored twice for Peru, and freshman Landon Crowe also scored.

Parker Wallace stopped eight of 11 shots in goal for Rochester.

Rochester 1, North Miami 0 (Sept. 9): Mitchell Shafer scored in the second half for Rochester in a TRC home win over North Miami Sept. 9.

Brock Bickle had an assist.

Manchester 4, Rochester 1 (Sept. 7): Jude Brooks scored off a Zach Pickens assist for the visiting Zebras in a loss to conference and sectional rival Manchester on Sept. 7.

Owen Kruschwitz had two goals and an assist for the Squires.

Manchester led 3-0 at halftime.

Girls soccer

Rochester-Twin Lakes start time pushed back: Start time for the Rochester-Twin Lakes girls soccer game on Sept. 30 has been pushed back from 5 p.m. to 5:45 p.m.

Rochester 2, Manchester 0 (Monday): Macie Nelson had a goal and an assist, and Kallie Watson also scored for the visiting Lady Zs in a win over Manchester at Good Fields Monday.

The Lady Zs improved to 6-4-1 overall and 3-0 in the TRC. Rochester is the only remaining unbeaten team in the TRC.

Rochester had a 28-3 advantage in shots on goal. Kaillie Woods had three saves for the shutout.

Rochester led 1-0 at halftime.

Rochester 6, Bremen 1 (Saturday): Emma Howdeshell recorded a hat trick, and Macie Nelson added two goals for the Lady Zs, who beat Bremen on the Lady Lions’ home field for the first time ever.

Amy Williams also had a goal and an assist for Rochester.

Lilith Eaton had two assists, and Emily Basham had an assist.

Kaillie Woods had three saves in goal.

The game was tied 1-1 at halftime.

Rochester 5, Marion 0 (Sept. 9): Emma Howdeshell had a hat trick, and Kallie Watson and Lillith Eaton also scored for the Lady Zs in a road win over Marion Sept. 9.

Macie Nelson had four assists, including assists on all three of Howdeshell’s goals. Brooke Nelson also had an assist.

Kaillie Woods set a single-game school record of 17 saves.

“Lots of great communication was the focus this week, and it really paid off on the turf,” Rochester coach Chantal Rensberger said in a statement. “The girls needed this win before our game on Monday against Argos.”
