Scales notches double-double, earns MVP, leads Caston to first Cass County title

Harness, Zimpleman also make all-tourney team

Caston 45, Pioneer 32 (Dec. 3): Isabel Scales scored 14 points, grabbed 11 rebounds and dished out eight assists to lead the Caston girls basketball team past Pioneer in the Cass County Invitational final at Logansport on Dec. 3.

Bailey Harness added 10 points and eight rebounds, and Addison Zimpleman had nine points and two steals for the Class 1A, No. 4 Lady Comet, who won the Cass County Invitational for the first time ever.

Caston also broke an 11-game losing streak to Pioneer.

Scales was named tournament MVP, and Harness and Zimpleman also made the all-tournament team.

Already leading 30-28 going into the fourth quarter, Caston closed the game on a 15-4 run.

Pioneer’s Ashlynn Brooke, who scored 45 points against Caston in the team’s most recent meeting last season, scored all four of the Class 2A, No. 8 Lady Panthers’ fourth quarter points and had a game-high 15.

Gracie Hopper added 10.

The loss snapped a six-game season-opening winning streak.
