Girls basketball
Caston 56, Maconaquah 49 (Wednesday): Isabel Scales scored a game-high 28 points and pulled down 10 rebounds, and Abby Williamson also had a double-double (18 points, 10 rebounds) as Caston beat Maconaquah in the Miami County Invitational championship game at North Miami High School Wednesday.
Maddi Smith tied for team-high rebounding honors with 10.
Scales made 14 of 18 free throws. Caston outscored Maconaquah 17-2 from the foul line.
Lilly Maple scored 22 points for Maconaquah.
Caston led 25-24 at halftime and extended the lead to 42-34 after three quarters.
“The Lady Comets played hard and even when the Lady Braves would make their rin, the Comets would find a way to answer,” Caston first-year coach Josh Douglass said in a statement.
Caston wore masks in both games of the tournament per IHSAA quarantine rules.
Scales and Williamson both were selected for the all-tournament team.
