Seniors Stookey, Gonzalez, Bussard score in double figures in home finale, lead Valley past Wawasee

Tippecanoe Valley 57, Wawasee 20 (Saturday): Hailey Stookey hit four 3-pointers and scored a game-high 12 points as host Valley beat sectional rival Wawasee on senior day at Rita Price Simpson Court Saturday.

Stookey’s fellow seniors Gaby Gonzalez and Dalynne Bussard added 11 and 10 points, respectively. Betty Shepherd, the team’s fourth senior, had six.

Valley led 35-12 at halftime and extended the lead to 47-15 after three quarters.

Valley finished the regular season 16-6. They never lost consecutive games.

Valley has won the last four meetings with Wawasee.

Valley will play No. 12 Columbia City, a 58-26 winner over West Noble Tuesday, in a Class 3A, Sectional 20 semifinal at 6 p.m. Friday.

Valley also honored Gene Hughes for his 50 years of “dedicated service to TVSC Athletics” in a pregame ceremony.
