Seymour, Clark lead Winamac past Caston in Hoosier North opener
Sheets has 7 RBIs in doubleheader sweep of Northfield
Winamac 8, Caston 3 (Monday): Caleb Seymour had three hits at the plate and also fanned 10 on the mound, Hayden Clark had three RBIs, and Paxton Wallace hit a solo homer to lead the visiting Warriors past Caston in the Hoosier North opener for both teams Monday.
Russell Compton also had three hits as part of Winamac’s 16-hit attack. Mitchell Bonnell, Tyler Perry, Clark and Dylan Brown added two hits each. Carter Field had a single.
Brown also had two RBIs, and Perry and Seymour had one RBI each.
Seymour went five innings for the win. He allowed six hits and three runs (all earned) while walking four, hitting a batter and striking out 10.
Clark pitched two scoreless innings to close it out. He allowed two hits, a walk and a hit batter while striking out six.
Junior shortstop Joey Spin had three hits and drove in all three runs for Caston. Carter See also had three hits. Adam Rush added a double, and Kade Zeider had a single.
Zeider allowed 16 hits and eight runs (seven earned) in six innings and took the loss. He walked none and struck out six. Pete DuVall pitched a hitless seventh in relief.
Caston stole five bases, including two by See.
Winamac scored two runs in the top of the first and never trailed. Leading 4-3 after five innings, they tacked on four insurance runs in the top of sixth.

Winamac 14-15, Northfield 2-5 (Saturday): Class 2A, No. 16 Winamac swept a doubleheader from Class 1A, No. 18 Northfield Saturday, winning the first game 14-2 in five innings and the second game 15-5 in seven innings.
Emma Goodman went 4 for 4 with three RBIs, and Alexis Sheets singled twice, homered and drove in four runs in Game 1. Catie Perry had a hit, two RBIs and two runs scored, and Maggie Smith had a hit and an RBI. Aubrey Gearhart had a double, and Ella Gearhart and McKenzie Hinz each had a single.
Winamac also had seven stolen bases, including two each from Smith, Goodman and Perry and one from Hinz.
Aubrey Gearhart pitched a two-hitter with one walk and 10 strikeouts.
In Game 2, Sheets had three more hits and three more RBIs. Ella Gearhart singled, doubled and drove in five runs. Kaya Campbell and Perry had two hits and two RBIs apiece. Goodman had two hits and an RBI, and Hinz and Samantha Perry also had two hits each.
Ella Gearhart hurled four scoreless innings of relief for the win. She allowed three hits and walked two while striking out seven. Sheets started and allowed five hits and five runs (four earned) in three innings. She walked one and struck out six.
