Knox def. Winamac, 25-22, 25-20, 25-20 (Thursday): The host Lady Warriors fell to Knox in their Hoosier North opener Thursday.
Maggie Smith had six kills, three blocks and eight digs. Aubrey Gearhart had eight digs and nine assists. Ella Gearhart had two aces, four digs and three kills.
Smith and Aubrey Gearhart were making their season debuts. Coach Heather Kasten told RTC last week that they had been quarantined.
“The Lady Warriors took on the Knox Redskins last night for their first conference game of the season,” Kasten said in a statement. “After another week off of practice due to illness this week, Winamac struggled with timing and communication.”
Kasten said the team is making progress given the uncertain nature of the season.
“There are a lot of good things happening every single play, whether the girls realize it or not,” Kasten said. “We are doing a lot of things other teams this young aren't able to do, so I am very proud of their determination and work ethic. It's tough to stay positive when everything is still so uncertain day to day, but they are doing a great job of it.”
Kasten also said that Hailey Attinger and McKenzie Hinz were “unavailable” for the match.
