Sports postponements: Rochester, Valley move games to Saturday

The following sporting events postponed earlier in the week due to inclement weather have been rescheduled:

Girls basketball

• The Western-Rochester game postponed Tuesday has been rescheduled for Saturday. The JV game will start at 1 p.m., and the varsity game will follow at approximately 2:30 p.m. at Rochester.

• The Wawasee-Tippecanoe Valley game postponed Tuesday has been rescheduled for Saturday. The JV game will start at 3:30 p.m., and the varsity game will follow at approximately 5 p.m. Seniors Dalynne Bussard, Gaby Gonzalez, Betty Shepherd and Hailey Stookey will be recognized.

The Valley School Corporation will also hold a ceremony prior to the game honoring Gene Hughes “for an extraordinary 50 years of commitment, leadership, and service to TVSC athletics.”

Hughes has served as an athletic trainer, bus driver, track coach, basketball coach, instructional aide and athletic director during his time with the school corporation.

“Beyond his athletic roles, Mr. Hughes has been a guiding force for Special Olympics at TVSC, organizing events for more than 20 years and creating opportunities for athletes of all abilities to shine. Even today, he remains a familiar and beloved presence at TVSC sporting events, often attending alongside his daughter, Teri,” the corporation added in a statement.
