State your name: Valley’s new conference gets name

BY VAL TSOUTSOURIS

Sports Editor, RTC

The new six-team conference that includes Tippecanoe Valley will be called the Indiana Northern State Conference when it begins play in 2024-25, according to a statement released Friday.

The other five schools are Bremen, Jimtown, John Glenn, Knox and LaVille.

The six schools announced that they were forming a new conference on April 5. This came five days after Valley sent a letter to the Three Rivers Conference telling it that it was leaving.

The TRC subsequently removed Valley in a meeting of its principals on April 24, and Valley is competing as an independent in 2023-24.

Bremen, Jimtown, John Glenn, Knox and LaVille were in a conference called the Northern State Conference from the 1983-84 school year through the 2014-15 school year.

Bremen, Jimtown and John Glenn have competed in the Northern Indiana Conference since 2015. Knox and LaVille joined the new Hoosier North Athletic Conference in 2015.

The INSC will be Valley’s second conference. They joined the TRC when the school opened its doors in 1975.

Coincidentally, the six schools played each other in football Friday. Valley beat Jimtown 35-14 for their first ever win over the Jimmies in seven tries. Knox beat LaVille 21-13 in a battle of the final two unbeatens in the Hoosier North. John Glenn routed Bremen 42-0.
