Strycker scores 12, but Wabash extends Pioneer’s skid

Girls basketball

Wabash 44, Pioneer 29 (Nov. 21): Makenna Strycker scored 12 points, and Lois Layer added eight, but the visiting Pioneer girls basketball team could not overcome a scoreless second quarter in a loss to sectional rival Wabash at Coolman Gymnasium on Nov. 21.

Strycker scored all nine Pioneer points in the fourth quarter. Layer scored all eight of her points in the third quarter.

The 29 points were a season high for the Lady Panthers, who lost their fifth straight game dating back to last season. However, they also committed 19 turnovers.

Kierra Wilson scored 15 points, and Bryleigh Boggs added 10 for Wabash (3-3).

Wabash extended a 12-10 lead after one quarter to 22-10 at halftime.

This was the teams’ first meeting since Pioneer beat Wabash 58-57 in the Class 2A, Sectional 36 quarterfinals on Jan. 31.
