Girls basketball
Pioneer 48, Logansport 45 (Tuesday): Makenna Strycker scored a career-high 26 points, and Mia McKaig scored all 10 of her points in the second half as the Pioneer girls basketball team earned their first win against host Logansport at the Berry Bowl Tuesday.
Pioneer (1-4) advanced to the Cass County Invitational title game at 8:15 p.m. Saturday at Logansport.
Gracie Hopper had Pioneer’s lone field goal in the fourth quarter, but the Lady Panthers held on after building a 42-29 lead after three quarters.
Pioneer trailed 16-15 at halftime but scored 27 points in the third quarter. Prior to Tuesday, Pioneer had not scored more than 29 points in a game.
Strycker and McKaig combined for 21 points in the quarter. Strycker had two 3-point plays and a 3-point shot. Pioneer also made eight of nine free throws in the quarter.
Pioneer made more free throws (21) than Logansport attempted (20).
