Wagner beats Shepherd in 300 hurdles showdown; Valley’s VanDusen wins 100, 200

Triton 69, Rochester 54, Tippecanoe Valley 40 (girls)

The Triton girls and boys track teams won at home over Rochester and Tippecanoe Valley Tuesday in the final meet for the Zebras and Vikings before their respective conference meets.

In the girls meet, Rochester winners included Maddie Bailon in the 100 meters, Vivian Miller in the 400, Kyra Doran in the 100 hurdles, Audrey Wagner in the 300 hurdles and Ashlynn Weyant in the shot put.

Rochester also won the 4 x 100 and 4 x 400 relays. The 4 x 100 relay consisted of Doran, Wagner, Kyla Conley and Bailon. The 4 x 400 relay consisted of Bailon, Conley, Miller and Wagner.

Valley winners in the girls meet included McKenna Lowe in the 3,200 and Betty Shepherd in the discus.

Wagner ran a Rocheter school record of 45.44 seconds to win the 300 hurdles. Shepherd, who finished 18th at state last year in the event, was second in 47.53 seconds.

Valley boys winners included freshman Parker VanDusen in both the 100 and 200, Eli Sterk in the 1,600 and Christopher Marquez in the 3,200.

Valley also won the 4 x 800 relay. The team consisted of Sterk, Isaac Whetstone, Marquez and Mason Miller.

As for Rochester, senior Owen Prater won the open 400 and teamed with Bryce Baugher, Grant Bailey and Jabez Yarber won win the 4 x 400 relay. 

Harrison Dunwoody won the 110 hurdles in 14.93 seconds, and Mason Hisey won the discus with a toss of 138-7.

Rochester will travel to Wabash for the Three Rivers Conference meet Friday. Valley will travel to John Glenn for the Indiana Northern State Conference meet May 14.

Rochester, Valley and Triton are three of the 12 teams that will compete in the Bremen girls sectional May 20 and the Plymouth boys sectional May 22.

Since Valley’s track is being renovated this spring, Valley held their senior night Tuesday.

Seniors recognized included Bailey Bussard and Carlee Snyder on the girls team and Noah Rutherford, Whetstone and Sterk on the boys team.
