Trump goes 2 for 2, but Argos’ season ends with sectional loss to Elkhart Christian

Elkhart Christian 3, Argos 2 (Thursday): Joel Trump went 2 for 2 with a single and a double and scored both Argos runs, and Brady Montgomery also had a single for Argos in a loss to Elkhart Christian in a Class 1A, Sectional 51 quarterfinal at South Central (Union Mills) Thursday.

Boyd Paul had an RBI on a sacrifice fly in the first inning.

Willie Barenie took the loss for Argos. He tossed four innings and allowed one hit and two runs (both earned). He walked 11 and struck out eight.

Montgomery relieved and allowed one run over three innings. He allowed two hits and walked four and hit a batter while striking out three.

Grayson Graham and James Ramirez combined on a three-hitter for Elkhart Christian. Graham pitched four innings for the win, and Ramirez pitched the final three innings for the save.

Ramirez also singled and walked three times at the plate.

Ramirez’s RBI single and Graham’s RBI walk in the second gave the Eagles a 2-1 lead.

Isaac Hurt’s sacrifice fly in the sixth extended the lead to 3-1.

Trump led off the bottom of the sixth with a double. He stole third and scored when the throw to try and get him was wild for an error.

Montgomery led off the seventh with a single, and he stole second, but Ramirez picked him off to end the game.

Argos finished 3-22.
