Tippecanoe Valley senior Carson Parker advanced to today’s consolation race in the 100 breaststroke and joined teammates Marcus Smith, Isaac Whetstone and Tucker Whetstone in advancing to the consolation race of the 200 medley relay at the IHSAA boys swimming state preliminaries at the Indiana University Natatorium in Indianapolis Friday.
The 200 medley relay swam a 1:36.66 and qualified 14th out of 32 teams to earn points. The time is a new school record, breaking the mark of 1:36.99 the team swam at the Warsaw sectional final last week.
Parker also qualified 14th in the 100 breaststroke in 58.47, a new school record. Parker also broke his own school record in the 50 freestyle in 21.46 seconds, though that time was not good enough to advance as he finished 19th.
Smith and Isaac Whetstone were both eliminated in both of their individual events.
Smith finished 25th in the 200 individual medley in 2:00.50 and 18th in the 100 backstroke in 51.93 seconds. He could return as an alternate in the backstroke today.
Isaac Whetstone finished 28th in the 200 freestyle in 1:47.95 and 27th in the 100 freestyle in 48.09 seconds.
The 400 freestyle relay team consisting in order of Isaac Whetstone, Tucker Whetstone, Smith and Parker took 25th place in 3:18.07 and did not advance. They were 3.88 seconds slower than their school-record and sectional championship time at Warsaw last week.
Jake Seuferer, the lone Rochester representative at state, finished 30th in the 500 freestyle in 5:01.25. A first-time state qualifier, Seuferer was seeded 30th coming into the meet.
