Valley boys tennis falls to Wawasee, but W. Mellott’s season continues

Wawasee 4, Tippecanoe Valley 1 (Thursday): William Mellott rallied to win 1-6, 6-2, 6-4 at No. 1 singles, but the Vikings lost to Wawasee in a sectional semifinal at Warsaw Thursday.

Noah Mellott and Liam Newcomer lost in straight sets at Nos. 2 and 3 singles, respectively.

Thad Shambaugh and Hayden Stookey lost in straight sets at No. 1 doubles, and J.J. Kammerer and Brent Miller lost in straight sets at No. 2 doubles.

While the team’s season is over, William Mellott will continue the singles tournament. He will face Seth Lomas of Northridge at Northridge later today.

“It was actually closer than the scores appear,” Valley coach Thadd Mellott said in a statement. “I was happy with the effort. We were just a little short.”

Warsaw beat Whitko 5-0, Columbia City 5-0 and Wawasee 5-0 to win the sectional.

Results: Wawasee 4, Tippecanoe Valley 1

Singles

William Mellott (TV) won 1-6, 6-2, 6-4

Noah Mellott (TV) lost 6-3, 6-1.

Liam Newcomer (TV) lost 6-4, 6-4.

Doubles

Thad Shambaugh-Hayden Stookey (TV) lost 6-3, 6-1.

J.J. Kammerer-Brent Miller (TV) lost 6-1, 6-4.
