Knox 9, Tippecanoe Valley 4 (Thursday): Jameson Phillips had a triple and a run scored, and Hunter Paxton, Cameron Manuel and Luke Tucker each had a hit and an RBI, but the Valley baseball team could not overcome nine errors in a Class 3A, Sectional 18 semifinal loss to Knox at Newton Park in Lakeville Thursday.
Parker Adamson also had an RBI for Valley. Landon Durkes and Issiac Ramsey each had singles.
Manuel took the loss after allowing eight runs in 3 ⅓ innings. Due to the errors, five of the runs were unearned. He allowed four hits, two walks and a hit batter while striking out five.
Landon Durkes pitched two innings and allowed a hit and an unearned run. He walked four and struck out two.
Tucker retired both of the batters he faced in the bottom of the sixth.
Valley scored three runs in the top of the first, but Knox scored two in the first and three in the second to go ahead for good at 5-3. They added four in the fourth.
Valley finished 4-15. They have not won a sectional title since 2012.
Knox will play No. 5 New Prairie in the sectional final at 11 a.m. Monday. New Prairie thrashed Culver Academy 21-2 in five innings in Thursday’s other semifinal.
