Boys basketball

The Tippecanoe Valley boys basketball team will play Muncie Central in the first round of the eight-team Delta Holiday Classic at 10:30 a.m. Dec. 27.

Valley will play a second game that day against either Northeastern or Fort Wayne South Side at either 3:30 p.m. or 6:30 p.m.

If they play Fort Wayne South Side again, it would be a rematch of a 64-55 Valley loss at home on Nov. 28.

They will play again on Dec. 28 against either Delta, Winchester, Fort Wayne Concordia or Columbia City. This is Valley’s first year in the tournament.

Delta lost to eventual Class 3A state champion NorthWood in the semistate final last year. The last time Valley won a sectional in 2019, they lost to Delta in a regional semifinal at Marion.

Girls basketball

The Valley girls team will look to avenge its only previous loss when they play undefeated Western at 6 p.m. Friday in the first round of the eight-team Carroll (Flora) tournament.

Valley (11-1) is ranked No. 14 in this week’s Class 3A coaches poll while Western (11-0) is ranked No. 6. Western knocked off Valley 44-37 on Nov. 15 in Russiaville, but that was the second game in two days for both teams.

For this game, Valley will be playing for the first time in eight days while Western will be playing for the first time in nine days.

Valley will then play twice more on Saturday. Their first game will be at 10 a.m. against either Riverton Parke or Covenant Christian.

Then they will play either University, Carroll (Flora), Lewis Cass or Western Boone. Carroll (Flora) (11-2) is ranked No. 6 in Class 2A, and Lewis Cass (10-1) is ranked No. 14 in Class 2A.

This is Valley’s first year in the tournament.
