Tippecanoe Valley 3, Wabash 2 (Wednesday): Markus Bernicky’s walk-off RBI single off freshman reliever Cooper Long gave Valley the win over visiting Wabash in their Three Rivers Conference opener Wednesday.
Bernicky also had a double, and Cameron Manuel contributed a single.
Evan Myers contributed an RBI at the plate and also got the win on the mound with 1 ⅓ scoreless innings of relief.
Noah Prater also had an RBI.
Valley also stole eight bases.
Valley won despite their pitchers walking six and throwing four wild pitches.
Cameron Manuel pitched the first five innings for Valley (2-3, 1-0 TRC). He allowed three hits and two runs while striking three batters out.
Prater got the first two outs in the sixth before Myers relieved.
Wabash led 1-0 after three innings before Valley tied it in the fourth and took a 2-1 lead in the fifth. Wabash tied it in the sixth.
Wabash starter Andrew Dillon pitched the first 6 ⅔ innings but had to be relieved after throwing 120 pitches, the maximum allowable total per IHSAA pitch count rules.
Wabash is the defending TRC champions. They went 9-0 in conference play last year.
