Valley expected to hire Sturtevant Monday

Sports Editor, RTC

Tippecanoe Valley will hire Sam Sturtevant as its new athletic director, pending approval at Monday’s school board meeting.

Sturtevant is currently an assistant athletic director at Plymouth High School. He is a graduate of LaPorte LaLumiere High School and Butler University. He played soccer and basketball at LaPorte LaLumiere.

He was a basketball team manager at both LaPorte LaLumiere and Butler.

He also had a summer internship with the Indy Bandits, a semi-pro women’s basketball team.

He is a Plymouth native.

Valley’s athletic director vacancy was created when Aaron Butcher left to take the Hobart boys basketball coaching job on June 16.

The next athletic director will be Valley’s fourth since the start of 2018. Valley has hired a new boys soccer coach (Trevor Brown), a new boys basketball coach (Joe Luce), a new softball coach (Marc Green), a new cheer coach (Brittany Mathias) and a new girls tennis coach (Hunter Ackerman) since April.

Valley has a current boys tennis coaching vacancy that the new athletic director will need to fill.

Luce has also been hired as the new dean of students.
