Hayden scores 11, Gonzalez adds 10 in win over Kokomo

Girls basketball

Tippecanoe Valley 40, Wawasee 36 (Tuesday): Gaby Gonzalez and Lucy Hayden scored nine points each, and Hadley Wise and Dalynne Bussard had seven each as the visiting Lady Vikings earned a road win over sectional rival Wawasee at the Hardwood Teepee Tuesday.

Valleymade 7 of 8 free throws in the fourth quarter – Gonzalez was 5 for 6 – and 11 for 15 for the game. Wawasee made two of seven.

Valley prevailed despite Wawasee making six 3-pointers as compared to their one.

Valley led 22-14 at halftime, but Wawasee trimmed the deficit to 29-26 after three quarters.

Valley is 11-10, and five of their wins are against teams with winning records. Lucy Wilkinson had 13 points for Wawasee, who dropped to 13-8.

Tippecanoe Valley 45, Kokomo 38 (Saturday): Lucy Hayden scored 11 points, and Gaby Gonzalez added 10 for Valley as they beat visiting Kokomo at Rita Price Simpson Court Saturday afternoon.

Hailey Stookey added seven, and Dalynne Bussard and Carlee Snyder had six each. Hadley Wise contributed five.

Stookey had two of Valley’s three field goals in the fourth quarter. Bussard scored all of her points on free throws in the fourth quarter. Snyder had five of her six in the second half.

Valley made 16 of 22 free throws while Kokomo was 5 for 8.

Valley (10-10) led 12-3 after one quarter and 22-13 at halftime. Kokomo cut the margin to 28-21 after three quarters.
