Valley girls, boys finish 5th at INSC meet

Shepherd wins girls 300 hurdles; frosh VanDusen wins 200, helps 4 x 100 relay win

Track

Both the Tippecanoe Valley girls and boys track teams finished fifth at the Indiana Northern State Conference track meet at John Glenn May 14.

The girls scored 34 points while the boys scored 49.

In the girls meet, Betty Shepherd singlehandedly accounted for 22 points by winning the 300 hurdles, finishing second in the 100 hurdles in 16.35 seconds and finishing fourth in the discus with a throw of 97-9.

Shepherd also anchored the 4 x 100 relay that took fourth in 51.84 seconds. The team also included Izabella Woodruff, Hadley Wise and Gaby Gonzalez. Valley did not have a 4 x 400 or 4 x 800 relay team.

Top scorers for the boys team included sprinters Parker VanDusen and Owen Omondi, who combined to account for 38 points.

VanDusen won the 200 and was second in the 100. Omondi was fourth in the 200 and third in the 100. VanDusen and Omondi also formed half of the victorious 4 x 100 relay that also included Grady Moriarty and anchor Hudson Shepherd. 

In addition, Valley placed fourth in the 4 x 400 relay and fifth in the 4 x 800 relay.

Valley’s only field event points came from Shepherd, who took fifth in the high jump with a clearance of 5-8.

Bremen won both the girls title with 170 points and the boys title with 146 points.
