NorthWood 88.5, Tippecanoe Valley 40.5 (girls, Tuesday)
NorthWood 67, Tippecanoe Valley 65 (boys, Tuesday)
Chloe Shepherd, Chesnee Miller, Ava Smith and Sidney Wagner won individual events, but the Valley girls track team lost their season opener to NorthWood Tuesday.
Shepherd won both the discus (79-2 ¾) and shot put (28-10). Miller won the 3,200 meters in 12:53. Smith, a freshman, won the 200 meters in 28.33 seconds. Wagner won the pole vault with a clearance of 7-0.
NorthWood also won the boys meet even though Valley outscored the Panthers 34-11 in the field events.
Valley boys winning field events included Dalton Alber in the discus (116-6 ½), Wade Melanson in the shot put (49-7), Braden Shepherd in the long jump (18-10) and Dawson Perkins in the high jump (6-0).
Valley boys winning track events included Rex Kirchenstien in the 200 meters and Alex Mikel in the 400 meters. Valley also won the 4 x 100 and 4 x 400 relays.
“With the first meet under everyone’s belt and the nerves tamed for now, it will be an (exciting) season for sure,” Valley coach Jenny Moriarty said in a statement.
Valley’s next meet will be a three-way dual at Whitko April 13 that will also include North Miami.
