Valley sets school record for fewest points, routs N. Miami

Cumberland’s 3 at buzzer gives Valley win over Columbia City

Boys basketball

Tippecanoe Valley 53, North Miami 17 (Friday): Brendyn Stump and Paul Leasure had 11 points each, and freshman Riley Shepherd had 10 off the bench as Valley claimed a Three Rivers Conference road win over North Miami Friday.

Dawson Perkins added nine points, six rebounds, four blocked shots and three steals.

Stump also had six rebounds, and Shepherd had five.

The 17 points allowed were the fewest in Valley school history. The previous fewest came in a 60-19 win over Winamac on Dec. 28, 2004.

North Miami led 7-3 after one quarter, but Valley came back to take a 16-11 lead at halftime.

Valley improved to 6-12 overall and finished TRC play 2-7. Valley is 4-1 in their last five games.

Valley also beat North Miami for the 10th straight year.

North Miami dropped to 4-14 overall and 0-8 in the TRC. They have lost 43 consecutive conference games dating back to December 2016.

Valley also won the JV game 52-7. Dom Welk had 10, and Shepherd had nine for Valley. Landon Walters contributed six points and six assists.

Valley 45, Columbia City 42 (Tuesday): Nolan Cumberland hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer to lift Valley to a come-from-behind home win over Columbia City Tuesday.

Cumberland scored a game-high 14 points, and Dawson Perkins and Paul Leasure added 13 each. Brendyn Stump had five.

Perkins also had 11 rebounds and three blocked shots. Coach Chad Patrick credited Leasure with holding Mason Baker, whom Patrick called Columbia City’s “best player,” to five points.

Cumberland also had three blocks.

“And once again, senior Chase Miller gave us huge minutes,” Patrick added in a statement.

In the JV game, Valley prevailed 49-40. Dylan Neese scored 16 points, and Riley Shepherd added 12. Cooper Walls had six assists.

Columbia City led 21-19 at halftime and 38-29 after three quarters before Valley came back.
