Rochester 163, Tippecanoe Valley 192 (Tuesday): Olivia Bailey earned medalist honors with a 37, and the Rochester girls golf team beat Valley in the final home match of Ava Thomas’ career over the back nine at Round Barn Golf Club at Mill Creek Tuesday.
Lexi Haughs added a personal-best 41, Molly Moore had a 42, Thomas had a 43, and Laynie Migonis had a 57 for the Lady Zs.
Savana Miller had a 39 for Valley, whose team score was a season low for nine holes. Maddie Thompson had a personal-best 40, Lucy Hayden had a 52, Maris Overbey had a 61, and Jenna Prater had a 65.
Bailey birdied the par-5 12th hole. Haughs had four pars and five bogeys. Moore had five pars, three bogeys and a triple bogey on No. 18. Thomas was 5-over-par through two holes before birdieing Nos. 12 and 13.
Miller was 4-over-par through two holes before she birdied No. 12, and she later added a birdie on the par-4 17th. Thompson had six straight bogeys from Nos. 11-16 before finishing with back-to-back birdies on No. 17 and 18. She and Miller were the only players on either team to birdie No. 17, and Thompson was the only player to birdie No. 18.
The match also marked the final regular season match for both teams. Valley will compete at the Warsaw sectional at Stonehenge Golf Club in Winona Lake at 8:30 a.m. Thursday. Rochester will travel to Tippecanoe Country Club in Monticello for the Twin Lakes sectional at 9 a.m. Monday.
“This is just what we needed heading into sectionals on Thursday,” Valley coach Leslie Brouyette said in a statement.
