Valley sports briefs: Petgen scores in loss to Manchester

Boys tennis swept in TRC loss to Peru

Boys soccer

Manchester 8, Tippecanoe Valley 1 (Tuesday): Caleb Petgen scored on a penalty kick with nine minutes left, but the Vikings suffered a home loss to conference and sectional rival Manchester Tuesday.

Valley will travel to Maconaquah for another Three Rivers Conference game Thursday.

“Valley had multiple opportunities to score but could not finish on four breakaways,” Valley coach Andrew Luce said in a statement. “Manchester took advantage of Valley’s misfortune and cashed in themselves.

Manchester led 6-0 at halftime.

Boys tennis

Peru 5, Tippecanoe Valley 0 (Tuesday): Valley lost all four matches that were played in straight sets against host Peru Tuesday. Valley also lost the match at No. 3 singles by forfeit.

Valley fell to 4-5 on the season.

Peru, the defending Three Rivers Conference champion, will host Rochester on Thursday.

RESULTS: PERU 5, VALLEY 0

Peru won by default.
