Rochester’s Trevor Walley cleared 12-6 in the pole vault and finished 13th at the Hoosier State Relays championship meet held at Fall Creek Pavilion at the Indiana State Fairgrounds in Indianapolis Saturday.

Meanwhile, teammate Harrison Dunwoody ran the 60-meter hurdles in 8.82 seconds and placed 15th.

Walley’s outdoor personal best prior to the indoor season was 11-6. His state vault marked the third time during indoor season he has gone at least 12 feet. He also had a vault of 12-6 in a meet at Bethel University March 20.

“Walley bettered his outdoor best at every meet this season,” Rochester coach Ryan Helt said in a statement. “If he can maintain his consistency and continue to improve, his performances promise to raise the ceiling for this team’s potential in 2025.”

Dunwoody’s personal best last year was 9.61 for the 60 hurdles. He cut that down to 8.68 this indoor season.

“Dunwoody, a regional qualifier in 2024, is clearly one of the most improved athletes on the team this year,” Helt said. “He is expected to feature prominently in the team’s lineups during the outdoor season in both hurdle events and in sprint relays.”

No Lady Zs competed in the girls meet. Kyra Doran qualified 23rd in the 60 hurdles after running a 10.22 and qualified 24th in the long jump with a leap of 16-1 ½. She did not compete due to spring break travel.

“Qualifying for the state finals is an impressive feat,” Helt said. “Relatively few are able to qualify in two events, particularly as a sophomore.”

Rochester’s first outdoor meet is a three-way meet that will also include Caston at Plymouth at 5 p.m. Thursday.

Rochester competes at Bethel University

Rochester competed in only field events at an indoor meet at Bethel University March 20.

Walley cleared 12-6 in the pole vault while Gage Zimpelman cleared 10-0 to tie his personal best.

Other Zebra boys included Maddox Jewell, who soared 18-5 ¾ for an indoor personal best in the long jump; Landon Weaver, who set an indoor personal best with a throw of 36-2 ¼ in the shot put; Tyler Reese, who threw the shot put 35-10 ¾; and Tanner Hamilton, who threw the shot put 33-8 ½.

Three Rochester shot putters also competed in the girls meet. Ashlynn Weyant had a throw of 30-6 ½, Sophia Kouskousakis had a throw of 20-10 ½, and Nevaeh Goodman had a throw of 19-6 ¾.
