Rochester at Wabash, 7 p.m.
The Rochester coaching staff set out to four coaching clinics over the summer to try to improve their defense, including a trip to the Los Angeles area to talk with the St. John Bosco coaching staff to try and improve their coaching staff.
Their first challenge is Wabash, who has a veteran quarterback in Izaak Wright. Senior running back Keaton Fields, who led the Apaches in rushing last year, and senior wide receiver Trevor Daughtry, who led in receptions, are also back.
“His elusiveness and his ability to create on the run,” Rochester coach Ron Shaffer said when asked what impresses him about Wright. “He is dangerous outside the pocket. It’s an emphasis for us to keep him back in that horseshoe, they say. Keep him in the pocket because once he breaks the pocket, if coverage breaks down, he can hurt you with his legs and his arm. More with his arm. But he does elude rushers well, and so, it’s a point of emphasis for us to keep him in the pocket.”
Rochester is 14-0 against Wabash since Wabash joined the TRC in 2006. They beat the Apaches 52-13 on the road last year.
