Caston (0-1, 0-0 Hoosier North) at North Judson (1-0, 1-0), 7:30 p.m.
Caston had a 133-102 advantage in rushing yards against West Central last week but still took a 24-12 loss.
Jabez Yarber ran for 61 yards, and Kyle Roudebush ran for 49. And on top of that, sophomore quarterback Gavin Mollenkopf completed more than half his passes for 104 yards.
Grant Yadon caught four passes for 53 yards and a touchdown.
The problem was that West Central’s passing attack was flawless: Connor Marlatt and Spencer Leman combined to complete all 12 passes they threw for 211 yards.
Now they will face a North Judson team that would appear to be young and talented. In their 47-0 win last week over Culver, North Judson had 465 yards of total offense, and none of the 465 yards were gained by a senior.
Kole Wilcox had a team-high 95 yards rushing and also caught a 52-yard pass. He scored three touchdowns overall. Trey McGowen had 121 yards of offense – 58 rushing, 63 receiving – on 11 touches, and junior Brock Benson ran for 84 yards on just nine carries.
Quarterback Jesiah McDaniel threw for 127 yards and two touchdowns and no interceptions.
Defensively, North Judson recorded their 10th shutout in Brett Lambert’s five-year coaching reign.
Yadon has had multiple receptions in nine of Caston’s 11 games since the start of the 2022 season, but one of the two games he did not have multiple catches was last year’s 52-8 loss at the Comet Crater.
Caston has never beaten North Judson in football. Caston is 0-8 against North Judson since they became Hoosier North rivals with the closest margin of defeat being 11 points.
