Pioneer relies on ground game, defense to beat Winamac; Culver falls to South Central

North Judson 52, Caston 7 (Friday): Jabez Yarber had 15 carries for 51 yards, and Grant Yadon accounted for 72 yards of total offense and scored Caston’s lone touchdown in a Hoosier North road loss to Class 1A, No. 3 North Judson Friday.
Yadon, a senior tight end, had two carries for 43 yards and a touchdown and also had five receptions for 29 yards. Yarber added two catches for 10 yards, and Kyle Roudebush had a 36-yard reception. Chase Angot had eight carries for 16 yards.
Gavin Mollenkopf completed eight of 16 passes for 75 yards. He also had an interception on defense.
Yarber also led the defense with seven tackles. Yadon had five tackles and a blocked field goal. Roudebush also had five tackles. Pete DuVall had three tackles and forced a fumble. Levi Martin had four tackles and a sack for a seven-yard loss.
Zane Hipsher had three tackles, and Ashton Bowyer had two tackles.
North Judson led 27-7 at halftime and extended the lead to 39-7 after three quarters.
Caston has never beaten North Judson in football.

Pioneer 38, Winamac 0 (Friday): Rylahn Toloza ran for 171 yards and two touchdowns on 16 carries, and Micah Rans had 103 yards and three touchdowns on five carries for the Pioneer football team as they beat host Winamac in their Hoosier North opener Friday.
Rans also kicked two extra points.
Cayden Hill added eight carries for 56 yards and a score. Tyler Zellers had 26 yards on three carries.
Eli Guffey and J.J. Solano had 10 tackles each, and Noah VanMeter had nine. VanMeter had 2.5 tackles for loss, and Eli Guffey and Blu Rosen-Jacks had two tackles for loss each.
The Pioneer defense held Winamac to 65 yards of total offense.
This marked the sixth time Pioneer has shut out Winamac since 2015.
Willis Dennis Jr. had 62 yards rushing on 15 carries for Winamac. Maddox Bucinski had 40 yards on 12 carries. Bucinski and Jayse Bentle each had one reception for eight yards.
Cash Roth had an interception and nine tackles on defense. Aiden Schooler had a team-high 12 tackles. Ethan Burgess had 11 tackles.
Pioneer led 18-0 at halftime.

South Central (Union Mills) 44, Culver 22 (Friday): Jack Rodgers and Ethan Binion both ran for more than 100 yards, but the visiting Cavaliers lost to sectional rival South Central Friday.
Rodgers had 106 yards and two touchdowns on seven carries, including a 58-yard scoring run in the second quarter. Binion carried 26 times for 104 yards and a touchdown.
Freshman Isiaah Gonzalez had two receptions for 12 yards. Jonas McCuen had 12 yards passing and also had an interception on defense.
Tony Sommers and Drake Zorich had eight tackles each on defense.
Aaron Hogan had 17 carries for 165 yards and four touchdowns for the Satellites. Hogan also had an interception on defense.
Zack Hanchar threw for 96 yards and a touchdown and also ran for 69 yards and a touchdown. Kevin Hiigli had four catches for 62 yards and a touchdown.
South Central led 28-22 at halftime.
