Week 9 roundup: Parker runs for 240 yards, 4 TDs, but Southwood snaps Valley’s win streaks

Caston finishes winless regular season after loss to Knox; LaVille completes undefeated regular season vs. Culver; Pioneer falls to North Judson

Southwood 28, Tippecanoe Valley 26 (Friday): Nate Parker ran 40 times for 240 yards and four touchdowns, but the visiting Vikings lost to Southwood Friday, snapping their eight-game winning streak, their 17-game regular season winning streak and their 15-game TRC winning streak.

Valley, who had clinched a share of the Three Rivers Conference title coming into the game, shared the title with Southwood and Rochester, who beat Maconaquah 38-14. The Vikings, Knights and Zebras all finished 7-1 in the conference.

Southwood rallied from a 12-0 second quarter deficit and eventually took a 21-12 lead.

Parker’s fourth touchdown with 5:45 left cut the deficit to 28-26. Gage Overbey converted both of his extra points but missed a 20-yard field goal attempt with nine seconds left to secure the win for Southwood (7-2).

Parker also led Valley with three receptions for 22 yards. Valley was limited to 37 yards passing.

Dalton Alber led the Valley defense with six tackles. Landon Durkes had an interception.

Valley (8-1), who went 9-0 in the regular season in 2021, was attempting back-to-back undefeated regular seasons for the first time since 1981-82. Valley had not trailed a game since falling behind 7-0 to Peru on Sept. 2.

Cole Winer threw for 224 yards and three touchdowns and also ran for a team-high 59 yards and a score for Southwood. Mo Lloyd had two catches for 109 yards and a touchdown, and Isaiah Sutton caught a 52-yard touchdown pass. Will Winer also had a touchdown reception.

Valley has not beaten Southwood on the road since 2012.

Knox 55, Caston 0 (Friday): Grant Yadon had two receptions for 31 yards, and he also led the defense with five tackles for Caston in a Hoosier North road loss to Knox Friday.

Chase Angot had eight carries for 23 yards on the ground. Jabez Yarber had 15 carries for 16 yards, and he also had an interception and a fumble recovery on defense.

Quarterback Gavin Mollenkopf threw two interceptions.

Evan Howard had four tackles. Josh Sullivan had one reception for seven yards and added three tackles on defense. Levi Martin had two tackles.

Knox led 42-0 at halftime.

LaVille 42, Culver 0 (Friday): Culver lost at home to Class 2A, No. 3 LaVille Friday. The win completed an undefeated regular season for the Lancers and wrapped up the Hoosier North title outright.

Paul DeWitt ran for four touchdowns and also returned a blocked punt three yards for a touchdown in the second quarter.

Culver has lost the last 11 meetings to LaVille (9-0, 7-0 Hoosier North).

Culver (5-4, 3-4) will host winless North Newton in a Class 1A, Sectional 41 quarterfinal next Friday.

North Judson 55, Pioneer 8 (Friday): Kole Wilcox ran for 108 yards and three touchdowns, and Cheyenne Allen ran for 72 yards and added 36 yards receiving and also scored three touchdowns for North Judson in a Hoosier North home win over Pioneer Friday.

Pioneer suffered their fifth straight loss and finished the regular season 2-7, 2-5 Hoosier North.

Rylahn Toloza ran for 127 yards and a touchdown on 20 carries for the Panthers. Mican Rans had 24 yards passing and complete dpasses to four different receivers.

Peyton Schnurpel recorded a safety.

Cayden Hill had five solo tackles and six assists on defense. Toloza had three solo tackles and six assists. Tyler Zellers and Schnurpel each had 1.5 tackles for loss. Zellers also blocked a punt.

The Class 1A, No. 5 Blue Jays, who had 385 yards rushing and 119 passing, improved to 8-1, 6-1.

This marked North Judson’s first win over Pioneer since the schools became conference rivals in 2015. It was also North Judson’s first win over Pioneer since 2008.

North Judson led 21-2 at halftime.

Triton 42, Winamac 6 (Friday): Jadon Jones caught a 31-yard touchdown pass from Cash Roth in the second quarter, but the visiting Warriors lost their regular season finale to Triton Friday.

Maddox Bucinski led the ground attack with 36 yards rushing.

Jayse Bentle had a 35-yard reception.

Michael Loehmer accounted for nine tackles, and Talen Garner had seven stops.

Triton led 28-6 at halftime.

Winamac will travel to No. 7 Lafayette Central Catholic in their Class 2A, Sectional 34 quarterfinal next week.
