Winamac boys wrestling takes 2nd in Hoosier North

Buschman, Carrington win individual titles, lead Culver to 3rd

Boys wrestling

Led by 106-pound champion Justin Housinger, the Winamac boys wrestling team was the highest finishing RTC area team at the Hoosier North boys wrestling tournament at Triton Jan. 17.

Winamac was second with 196.5 points, Culver was third with 142.5, Pioneer was fourth with 121.5, and Caston was seventh with 94.5.

North Miami, wrestling one week after winning their second straight Class 1A Team State Duals title, won with 322.5 points. They had 10 individual champions.

Argos and Oregon-Davis do not have boys wrestling teams.

Winamac

In addition to Housinger, other Winamac placers included runners-up Franklin Crawford (113), Hayden Taylor (138), Asher Jones (150) and Tearson Wolford (215); third-place finishers Aiyden Broeker (120), Charles Cottrell (144), Rian Shell (157), Broderick Reutebuch (165) and Walker Lovely (190); fourth-place finisher Aaron Hardin (HWT); and sixth-place finisher Karter Loehmer.

There were only two wrestlers at 106, and Housinger pinned North Miami’s Mason Bent in 1:09 for the win.

Winamac forfeited 126.

Culver

Culver’s top finishers included champions Kael Buschman (144) and Theron Carrington (175). Buschman edged Pioneer’s Gage Lakes 1-0 for the title to improve to 33-3. Carrington went 3-0 with three falls and needed just 2:27 of mat time. His day ended with a 41-second pin of Pioneer’s Noah VanMeter for the title.

Other Culver placers included third-place finishers Coehn Markley (132), Izaya Vela (215) and Isaiah Milam (HWT); fourth-place finishers Xander Samuelson (120) and Dillon Tanner (150); fifth-place finisher Colton Falk (190); and sixth-place finishers Karter Weiger (138) and Matthew Bloomquist (157).

Culver forfeited 106, 113, 126 and 165.

Pioneer

The Panthers had no individual champions but boasted three runners-up in Hunter Ward (120), Lakes (144) and VanMeter (175).

Other Pioneer placers included fourth-place finishers Chase VanMeter (157), Kevin Gluth (165), Hunter Stover (190) and Brady Price (215); fifth-place finishers Dylan Shedron (132) and Cole Franklin (138).

Pioneer forfeited 106, 113, 126, 150 and heavyweight.

Caston

No Comet reached a sectional final, but eight placed. They included third-place finishers Jack Brumett (126), Ashton Bowyer (138) and Gabe Burkett-Rader (150); fifth-place finishers Daulton Oaf (144), Caymen Brown (157), Kane Finke (165) and Myles Sherrick (175); and sixth-place finisher Carson Hamman (190).

Caston forfeited 106, 113, 120, 132, 215 and heavyweight.

Winamac, Culver and Caston will travel to Plymouth for the sectional at 9 a.m. Saturday. Pioneer will travel to Twin Lakes for the sectional at 9 a.m. Saturday.
