Winamac frosh Bonnell’s season ends at New Prairie regional

Winamac freshman Brody Bonnell finished in 165th place in a field of 244 runners at the New Prairie regional Saturday, ending his season.

Bonnell was timed in 18:30. The cutoff for the 15th and final individual spot at state was 16:49.

Penn won the boys team title with 75 points. Northridge (91), Crown Point (148), Lake Central (204) and Chesterton (212) also advanced to state.

Lake Central junior Lucca Neves won the individual title in 15:39.

In the girls race, Winamac freshman Jillian Burns did not run even though she qualified at the Rensselaer sectional.

In an email to RTC, Winamac athletic director Josh Troyer said that Burns “had a conflict and was unable to attend.”

Burns ran a 25:07 at Rensselaer. The cutoff time for the 15th and final state spot at New Prairie Saturday was 19:54.

Lake Central won the team title with 40 points. Penn (119), Munster (127), Morgan Township (139) and Northridge (143) also advanced to state.

Kankakee Valley’s Jenna Walker was the individual champion in 17:58.
