Winamac girls basketball roundup: Link, Smith score 9 each in loss to Twin Lakes

Girls basketball

Twin Lakes 58, Winamac 35 (Jan. 25): Piper Link and Maggie Smith scored nine points each, and Marissa Iverson had seven, but Winamac lost their regular season finale to host Twin Lakes on Jan. 25.

Olivia Nickerson hit five 3-pointers and scored 24 points for Twin Lakes. Addie Bowsman added 18, and Taylor Oliver had 10.

Twin Lakes led 29-16 at halftime and extended the lead to 47-19 after three quarters.

Winamac finished the regular season 12-9.

Knox 58, Winamac 48 (Jan. 5): Kandace Kroft hit four 3-pointers and scored 15 points, and Maggie Smith made all six of her free throws and added 12, but the visiting Lady Redskins beat Winamac on Jan. 5.

Portland Minix led Knox with 26 points. She hit four 3-pointers and made all 14 of her free throws.

Winamac lost to Knox for the seventh straight year.

Winamac led 27-17 at halftime, but Knox rallied to take a 41-35 lead after three quarters.

Winamac 65, North Montgomery 48 (Dec. 20): Kandace Kroft and Marissa Iverson scored 17 each, and Maggie Smith and Piper Link added 13 each as Winamac topped North Montgomery in an Indiana Kitchen Classic semifinal at Delphi on Dec. 20.

The 65 points were a season high for the Lady Warriors.

Macee Norman hit five 3-pointers and scored 23 points for North Montgomery.

The game was tied at 28 at halftime, but Kroft and Iverson scored six points each in the third quarter while the Winamac defense held North Montgomery to four points.

Winamac 58, North Newton 19 (Dec. 18): Maggie Smith outscored the entire North Newton team with 21 points to lead three players in double figures as the host Lady Warriors routed North Newton in the quarterfinals of the Indiana Kitchen Classic on Dec. 18.

Kandace Kroft hit three 3-pointers and added 15, and Marissa Iverson had 12 off the bench.

Summer Wynn led North Newton with nine.

Winamac led 34-10 at halftime and extended the lead to 51-14 after three quarters.

Winamac is 8-0 against North Newton in the 21st century. The other seven meetings were sectional games.
