Winamac scores 5 in first, goes on to win 12-0 over Culver

Winamac 12, Culver 0 (5 innings, May 18): Abbi Kisela, Zoey Hunnicut, Luci Overmyer and Kayleigh Fritch each had a single for Culver in a Hoosier North road loss to Winamac on May 18.

Gracie Milam drew a walk.

A.J. Hinds started for Culver in the circle and took the loss after allowing 13 hits and nine runs (six earned) in 2 ⅔ innings. She walked none and struck out none. Hayden Lute relieved and allowed three runs in 1 ⅓ innings. She allowed two hits, walked two and hit a batter with no strikeouts.

McKenzie Hinz pitched a four-hit shutout for Winamac. Emma Goodman doubled and homered and drove in five runs. Isabelle Decker had two hits and three RBIs.

Winamac scored five runs in the bottom of the first and never trailed.

Softball

Westville 7, Culver 3 (May 20): Abbi Kisela had two hits and an RBI, and Kaylee Hamilton and Kayleigh Fritch also had two hits each for the Culver softball team in a home loss to Westville on May 20.

Kaitlyn Kanschat and Luci Overmyer each had a hit and an RBI.

A.J. Hinds took the loss in the circle after allowing 13 hits and seven runs (six earned) in 6 ⅔ innings. She walked none and struck out one. Hayden Lute got the final out in the seventh with one walk and one strikeout.

Westville scored twice in the first and never trailed. Trailing 4-1, Culver scored two runs in the fifth, but Westville answered with two in the sixth and one in the seventh.

Madison Shaw struck out 10 in the circle and also hit a solo homer for the Lady Blackhawks.

Westville won the rematch 7-0 on May 22 in the Class 1A, Sectional 50 quarterfinals.
