Zehner’s 4 RBIs, Molebash’s 11 Ks help Culver eliminate Argos

Culver 10, Argos 4 (Thursday): Abigayle Zehner singled twice, doubled and had four RBIs, and Aiden Molebash had two singles and a walk at the plate and also struck out 11 while pitching a seven-hitter as the Culver softball team defeated Argos in a Class 1A, Sectional 50 semifinal at Westville Thursday.

Brooke Davis added two hits and an RBI, and Gracie Milam singled and drove in two runs. Madison Kitts and Savannah Schlemmer also had two hits each, and Hayden Lute had a single and a walk.

Culver committed three errors, and three of the runs Molebash allowed were unearned. Molebash walked none.

Ava Stackhouse had two of Argos’ seven hits. Lexi Schenkel and Alydiah Leed each had a hit and an RBI. Ivy Stackhouse, Kendra Burkholder and Aleasia Sarver had one hit each.

Ivy Stackhouse allowed 13 hits, four walks and a hit batter in seven innings. Argos committed three errors that led to four unearned runs for Culver.

Culver will play Westville in the sectional final at 11 a.m. Saturday.

Schenkel’s RBI single and a run-scoring passed ball gave Argos a 2-0 lead in the first. 

In the top of the second, Milam and Lute scored on an error. Kitts would score the go-ahead run on an error, and Zehner made it 4-2 with an RBI single.

Culver scored five more runs in the fifth, all after the first two batters were retired, to grab a 9-2 lead.

Culver’s starting lineup consisted of five sophomores and four freshmen.

Argos had four seniors in their lineup.
