Mollenkopf throws 2 TD passes, but Caston falls to No. 6 NM; Pioneer blanks Winamac for 4th straight year; Culver falls to Triton

Hamilton Heights 35, Tippecanoe Valley 19 (Friday): Wes Parker ran for 149 yards and two touchdowns, but the visiting Class 3A, No. 12 Vikings lost to Hamilton Heights Friday.

Drew Woodruff threw for 199 yards and three touchdowns for the Huskies. Andre Chandler had five receptions for 103 yards, including touchdown catches of 31 and 33 yards. Cam Fleming had three catches for 82 yards and a touchdown. A.J. Flanagan had eight carries for 92 yards, including a 58-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter that completed the scoring.

Grady Moriarty added 54 yards rushing. Valley outrushed Hamilton Heights 218-137.

Jamison Phillips had two catches for 20 yards and a touchdown. Owen Omondi had two catches for 21 yards. Parker had two catches for nine yards.

Hamilton Heights led 15-13 at halftime. A touchdown pass from Woodruff to Chandler and a 30-yard Josh Getchell touchdown run increased the lead to 28-13 after three quarters.

Hamilton Heights improved to 1-2. Valley fell to 2-1.

Valley kicker-punter-defensive end Gage Overbey missed the game due to a leg injury.

North Miami 28, Caston 13 (Friday): Gavin Mollenkopf threw for 179 yards and two touchdowns, but the Caston football team did not score after the first quarter and lost to Class 1A, No. 6 North Miami in their Hoosier North opener Friday.

Logan Mollenkopf caught five passes for 95 yards and a touchdown, and Landen Rigney had three catches for 69 yards and a score. Reed Sommers had two receptions for 15 yards.

Rigney also had a team-high 39 yards rushing. Bowyer added 35 yards rushing.

Each team lost three fumbles.

Tucker Woolever led the defense with 11 tackles. London Herd had eight tackles. Bowyer had seven tackles. Parker Zimpleman and Rigney had five tackles each. Herd, Zimpleman and Jayden Cox also recovered fumbles.

Gage Minniear blocked a kick.

North Miami led 16-13 at halftime.

Pioneer 50, Winamac 0 (Friday): Micah Rans ran for 84 yards and three touchdowns, and he added 59 yards passing as the Class 1A, No. 14 Panthers beat conference and sectional rival Winamac at Roudebush Field Friday.

Pioneer ran for 312 yards as a team on 8.7 yards per carry. Nine different Pioneer players had at least one carry. No Pioneer player had more than seven carries.

Shiloh Rine added 73 yards and two touchdowns on the ground, and he also had a 25-yard reception. Phillip McFathridge ran for 38 yards and also had an interception on defense. Noah VanMeter ran for 31 yards and a touchdown.

Eli Guffey had a 34-yard reception.

Gage Lakes had a four-yard run in the fourth quarter.

The Pioneer defense held Winamac to 65 yards of total offense, including just three yards passing. Colten Long had six solo tackles and seven assists on defense. Rine had four tackles, including a tackle for loss and two passes broken up.

Tearson Wolford led Winamac with 45 yards on 15 carries, and he also had eight tackles on defense. Ivan Cardenas added three solo tackles and five assists. Jager Terry recovered a fumble.

Pioneer (2-1, 1-0 Hoosier North) led 42-0 at halftime, and the second half was played with a running clock, per the IHSAA Mercy Rule.

Pioneer shut Winamac out for the fourth straight year.

Winamac fell to 0-3, 0-1.

Triton 48, Culver 8 (Friday): The host Cavaliers lost their Hoosier North opener to Triton Friday.

Jayden Overmyer ran for 281 yards and three touchdowns.

Triton ran for 505 yards on 11.7 yards per carry.
