After leading Valley softball to sectional title, Green steps down

BY VAL TSOUTSOURIS

Sports Editor, RTC

Tippecanoe Valley softball coach Marc Green has stepped down after one season, RTC learned Wednesday night.

Green told RTC of the move in a text message. He said he has taken the men’s and women’s golf coaching positions at Holy Cross College, an NAIA school.

Green’s decision came one day after Valley’s season ended in a 16-0 loss in five innings to No. 3 New Prairie in a Class 3A regional.

Valley won its first sectional title in 31 years last week, beating Kankakee Valley 10-6 in the semifinals on May 25 and Rensselaer 6-2 in the final on May 27.

Green’s replacement will take over a team that graduates five seniors: Brittany Benn, Abby Bowers, Molly Moriarty, Madi Smith and Corinna Stiles.

Hailey Swope was the only listed junior on Valley’s postseason roster, but she did not play during Valley’s tournament run.

Green replaced Brittany Mathias after last season. He had been an assistant coach on Mathias’ staff but ascended to the top job after Mathias stepped down to become the cheerleading coach.

Green had previous softball head coaching experience at Marian University Ancilla and Parkland College in Champaign, Ill., but Valley was his first high school head coaching position.
