RTC Girls Swimmer of the Year Chloe Chan
An accomplished swimmer in both the 50 freestyle and 100 breaststroke at Pioneer, Chloe Chan is the RTC Girls Swimmer of the Year.
Chan made the sectional final in both events at the Warsaw sectional on Feb. 3, and she took seventh in the 50 freestyle and fourth in the 100 breaststroke. She also won both events at the Hoosier North meet in conference record times.
Pioneer won that conference meet, and they finished seventh out of 12 teams at the sectional. They were clearly the best girls team in our area.
Chan headlines our list of our top area swimmers.
We thank area coaches for contributing to our list by sending results and sharing their insights and opinions with us.
Having said that, this list is ours and ours alone, and we take full responsibility for it.
We place special emphasis on the big Saturday meets as well as conference and sectional meets. These meets usually feature the best competition with swimmers participating in their preferred events.
Cailyn Colford Kendall Craig
First team
Chloe Chan (Pioneer) (Swimmer of the Year) – Chan destroyed the old conference mark in the 50 freestyle, swimming a 27.11 and breaking the record by more than a second. She made the sectional final in the 100 breaststroke four times, and her time of 1:12.69 spoke to her consistent excellence in her signature event.
Hayden Lute (Culver) – Lute broke the Hoosier North record in winning the 200 freestyle, and she was also adept in the 200 individual medley, where she placed seventh at the sectional, and the 500 freestyle, where she was second at conference and fourth at the sectional. Lute, who started her club career with the Rochester Royals, is only a sophomore and has a bright future.
Kendall Craig (Tippecanoe Valley) – Craig was another accomplished distance freestyler, taking fourth at the sectional in the 200 freestyle and ninth in the 500 freestyle.
Cailyn Colford (Pioneer) – Colford, a sophomore, starred in both the backstroke and the sprint freestyle events for the Lady Panthers. She won the 100 backstroke and swam the backstroke leg on the 200 medley relay team that broke the conference record. She also anchored the conference champion 400 freestyle relay team.
