Men’s college basketball

West Virginia University announced the hiring of new men’s basketball assistant coach Kory Barnett Friday.

Barnett spent the previous six seasons as an assistant coach under Steve Alford at Nevada. CPrior to that, he was an assistant coach under Alford at UCLA from 2013-19.

Barnett is a 2008 Rochester High School grad and a 2012 Indiana University grad, where he played basketball. He played on sectional championship teams in 2006 and 2007 at Rochester and was a member of the 2012 IU team that advanced to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament.

We are thrilled to have Kory join our basketball staff as he is one of the great, bright young coaches in college basketball, new West Virginia coach Darian DeVries said in a statement on the school’s website. He has worked his way up during his career and really did a great job at Nevada, especially working with their defense and having them ranked at the top nationally. Kory is an incredible person and family man.

Barnett is married to wife Sarah and the father to sons Brooks, 6, and Blake, 3.
