Girls: Caston’s Rogers runs 21:29 in sophomore finale

No Caston or Pioneer cross-country runners advanced from the Brownsburg regional to the IHSAA state finals Saturday.
The top area boys runner was Pioneer junior Dane Bowditch, who placed 83rd in a field of 249 runners in 16:40. His time was a 48-second improvement on his time from the Logansport sectional on Oct. 18.
Eli Hines, a sophomore and the other Pioneer regional qualifier, finished 213th in 18:39. His time was a 34-second improvement from the sectional.
The Caston frontrunner was Kane Finke, who finished in 17:39 and placed 170th in his final prep race. His time was a new personal record and was 1:10 faster than his Logansport sectional time.
Sophomore Daulton Oaf finished in 200th in 18:11. His time was a minute faster than his sectional time.
Carmel won the boys team title with 81 points. Avon (105), North Central (Indianapolis) (108), Brownsburg (137) and Ben Davis (164) also advanced to state.
Ben Davis senior Aboubakar Ibrahim was the individual champion in 15:11. Every boy who ran 16:01 or faster made state.
In the girls race, sophomore Hannah Rogers headed the three Caston runners by finishing in 146th place out of 245 runners in 21:29. Other Caston runners included senior Camila Hernandez-Rios, who finished 173rd in 22:00; and senior Myli Rude, who finished 203rd in 22:39.
Rogers improved upon her sectional time by 1:33, Hernandez-Rios by 1:54 and Rude by 1:46.
No Pioneer girl made the regional.
Carmel won the team title with 53 points. Zionsville (109), Indianapolis Chatard (113), Avon (150) and Harrison (West Lafayette) (156) also advanced to state.
Indianapolis Chatard’s Julia Score was the individual champion in 17:04. Every girl who ran 18:57 or faster advanced to state.
