Caston 4, Winamac 1 (Monday): Alex Craig, Jan Aguilar Mendez, Brock Hook and Andrew McGrew each scored a goal for the Comets in a win over Winamac in a Class 1A, Sectional 37 quarterfinal at Argos Monday.
Korben Fagner scored off a Sean Stark assist for Winamac, who finished 4-11.
Winamac played much of the game with nine players.
Caston won their sixth straight game since an 0-7 start. Caston also defeated Winamac 6-1 Thursday in the win that clinched the Hoosier North title.
“The Comets controlled most of the ball for most of the game,” Caston coach Narciso Sanchez said in a statement. “Overall play was sound. The ball moved from phase to phase without much opposition.”
Caston will play North White in the semifinals at 5 p.m. Wednesday. North White (8-7-1) shut out North Miami 1-0 in Monday’s other quarterfinal.
North White beat Caston 4-0 in their regular season meeting in Monon on Sept. 5.
“We’re happy to walk away with a win, and we know we have a tough opponent to face off against on Wednesday,” Sanchez said. “We look forward to the challenge and will put forth our best effort.”
Culver Academy 4, Manchester 2 (Monday): The Eagles topped Manchester in a Class 2A, Sectional 22 quarterfinal at Fort Wayne Concordia.
John Quigg, Eduardo Dela Vega Jaiden Hundt and Josh Tamon scored for Culver Academy.
No. 12 Culver Academy will play No. 11 Fort Wayne Dwenger in the semifinals at 5 p.m. Wednesday. Fort Wayne Dwenger received a bye to the semifinals.
