Both the Rochester and Tippecanoe Valley boys tennis teams drew the defending champion in their sectional for their postseason opener.

Rochester

Rochester drew host Peru for their Sectional 52 quarterfinal Wednesday. Peru is the seven-time defending sectional champion, and they have won 34 sectional titles in their history. Peru beat Rochester 5-0 in last year’s sectional final and 5-0 in their regular season meeting Sept. 4.

The Peru-Rochester winner will face Wabash, who received a bye, in the semifinals. In the other half of the bracket, Maconaquah will face Manchester.

Rochester won four straight boys tennis sectionals from 1980-83, but they have not won one since.

Tippecanoe Valley

Valley received a bye in Sectional 61 and will face Wawasee in the semifinals at Warsaw Thursday.

In the other half of the draw, Warsaw will face Whitko with the winner to take on Columbia City.

Wawasee broke a 14-year sectional drought with their title last year. Warsaw has won 34 sectional titles in its history.

Valley is seeking its first.

Tournament information

Sectionals begin statewide Wednesday and last through the end of the week. Regionals are Oct. 7-8, semistates are Oct. 11, and the state finals are Oct. 17-18 at North Central High School in Indianapolis.

Admission is free for sectionals, $8 per day for regionals, $8 for semistates and $15 per person for a two-day ticket for the state finals.
