Boys track regional update: Dunwoody breaks Rochester 110 hurdles record, returns to state finals

Rochester senior Harrison Dunwoody finished second in the 110 hurdles at the Warsaw regional Thursday to advance to the IHSAA state finals for the second straight year.

The top three in each event advanced to state. Dunwoody’s time of 14.52 seconds broke the Rochester school record. It also beat the boys state qualifying standard of 14.62 seconds.

Manchester’s Carson Heath won the race in 14.32 seconds.

Dunwoody’s previous personal best was 14.72 seconds. His time was 15.31 seconds at the 2025 regional at Goshen and 15.36 at the 2025 state finals at North Central High School in Indianapolis. He finished 27th at state last year.

Dunwoody was the only RTC area athlete to make state. He was 11th in the long jump with a jump of 20-7 ½.

The other area athlete competing in the long jump at Warsaw was Culver senior Theron Carrington, who finished 16th with a jump of 18-4 ¾.

The Rochester athlete competing in an individual event was Leandro Javier, who was 16th in the 3,200 meters in 10:54.90. Javier also ran a leg of the 4 x 800 relay that finished 15th in 8:44.23. Other runners on the relay included Tyson Wachtmann, Camdyn Furnivall and Grant Bailey. 

As for Tippecanoe Valley’s Owen Omondi, he finished 16th in the 100 meters in 11.78 seconds and scratched in the 200 meters.

At the Valparaiso regional, Winamac scored two points and finished in a tie for 28th place. Nathan Pierzchalski accounted for those two points by finishing seventh in the 3,200 meters in 9:53.65.

Pierzchalski scratched in the 1,600.

Other Winamac track athletes included Ethan Burgess, who was 15th in the 400 meters in 53.76; the 4 x 800 relay, which finished 15th in 9:09.54.

In the field events, thrower Charles Disinger was ninth in the discus with a throw of 130-2 and 16th in the shot put with a heave of 39-2.

At the Lafayette Jeff regional, Pioneer junior Dane Bowditch had his season end after he finished 15th in the 800 in 2:05.09. Fellow junior Mikaden Tolosa was 14th in the discus with a throw of 124-5.
