Caston boys basketball update: Stinson, Yadon, Hook score in double figures in loss to Winamac

Boys basketball

Winamac 59, Caston 50 (Feb. 20): Caleb Stinson led three Caston players in double figures with 14 points in a Hoosier North road loss to Winamac on Feb. 20.

Grant Yadon added 13, and Lane Hook added 12.

Caston led 11-8 after one quarter, but Winamac came back to lead 27-20 at halftime.

Brendan Hines hit four 3-pointers and scored a career-high 17 for Winamac. John Malchow added 14, and Jayse Bentle added 11. Bentle made six of seven free throws in the fourth quarter to ward off a potential Caston rally.

Winamac beat Caston at home for the first time since 2018.

Both teams finished conference play 3-4.

LaVille 68, Caston 51 (Feb. 16): Talon Zeider hit four 3-pointers and scored 17 points, and Caleb Stinson added 10 for the visiting Comets in a loss to LaVille at Dale E. Cox Gymnasium Feb. 16.

Collin Czarnecki scored 28 points, and Lucas Plummer added 16 for the Lancers, who led 40-31 at halftime and extended the lead to 58-40 after three quarters.

The teams combined for 16 3-pointers.

Lewis Cass 48, Caston 43 (Feb. 13): Talon Zeider hit three 3-pointers and scored 11 points, and Caleb Stinson added 10, but the host Comets lost to Lewis Cass for the second time this season on Feb. 13.

Grant Yadon added eight, and Lane Hook had six.

Lewis Cass led 13-6 after one quarter, but Caston came back to lead 23-22 at halftime. Lewis Cass regained a 35-33 lead after three quarters.

Lewis Cass was 15 for 16 from the foul line while Caston was four for eight.

Lewis Cass’ L.J. Hillis made all 10 of his free throws and scored a game-high 18. Bryce Rudd added 13.

Lewis Cass also beat Caston 38-34 in overtime in Nov. 29 in the first round of the Cass County Tournament.

Caston has lost their last nine meetings with Lewis Cass and has not beaten the Kings since December 2019.
