Caston boys drop road games to North White, North Judson, home game to Argos

Boys basketball

North White 56, Caston 46 (Saturday): Sam Smith scored 17 points to lead three Caston players in double figures, but the Comets could not overcome a one-point third quarter in a road loss to sectional rival North White Saturday.

Joey Spin hit a pair of 3-pointers and scored 11 points, and Kade Zeider also hit a pair of 3s and added 10 for the Comets (6-13).

Hunter Pogue hit three 3-pointers in the second quarter and led North White with 23 points. Bentley Buschman added 18.

North White led 27-21 at halftime and extended the lead to 41-22 after three quarters.

North Judson 54, Caston 51 (Friday): Kade Zeider hit five 3-pointers and scored 20 points, and Joey Spin added 14, but the Comets lost a Hoosier North road game to North Judson Friday.

Sam Smith added eight points, and Bryce Rudicel had seven.

Blayne Wilcox scored 14 of his game-high 23 points in the first half for North Judson. Payton Cox added 11.

North Judson led 19-6 after the first quarter and 31-20 at halftime.

Caston is 0-6 against North Judson since the teams became conference rivals in the 2015-16 season.

Argos 44, Caston 37 (Feb. 9): Kade Zeider hit four 3-pointers and scored 14 points, and Joey Spin added 10, but the host Comets could not hold on to an eight-point halftime lead and lost to Argos Feb. 8.

Zeider scored 11 of Caston’s 16 second-half points.

Caston led 21-13 at halftime, but Argos cut the deficit to 29-27 after three quarters.

Michael Richard scored 18 of his game-high 23 points in the second half for Argos. He outscored the entire Caston team 11-8 in the fourth quarter.

J.J. Morris added seven for Argos (11-4).

This was the teams’ first meeting since their regional semifinal meeting was canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic last March.

The win was the 100th for Argos coach Gordon Mosson in his seven seasons at the school. Phil Weybright is the only other Argos coach to get to 100 wins at the school. Mosson has 465 career wins.
