Jellison notches hat trick in win over O-D

Caston def. West Central, 25-12, 25-7, 12-25, 25-23 (Thursday): The host Lady Comets got 16 points from Isabel Scales and 15 from Maddi Smith in a win over West Central Thursday.
Smith led the team in kills followed by Scales and Abby Williamson, according to coach Melinda Shultz. Shultz also reported that Williamson led in blocks and Rebekah Milburn led in assists.
“I’m happy to have the win tonight,” Caston coach Melinda Shultz said in a statement. “While we did a lot of good things, we really struggled with getting down and not playing consistently. We have to continue to work on pushing through errors. Our team has shown a lot of growth and improvement so far this year, but we need to keep building on that as we go into this final stretch.”
Caston also won the JV match 25-16, 25-10. Haley Logan led in assists, Breana Alezquita led in kills, and Macee Hinderlider led in digs and serves received, according to coach Melinda Shultz.
LaVille def. Caston, 29-27, 27-25, 25-16 (Tuesday): Layne Oliver had 13 points, and Annie Harsh had 14 assists for Caston in a Hoosier North home loss to Caston Tuesday.
Maddi Smith led in both kills and serves received, according to coach Melinda Shultz. Abby Williamson and Isabel Scales had four blocks each.
In the JV match, LaVille triumphed 25-19, 25-19. Macee Hinderlider led Caston with seven points, and she also led in serves received, according to coach Melinda Shultz. Haley Logan led in assists, and Tayler Smith led in kills, according to Shultz.
Caston def. Argos, 25-7, 25-22, 25-16 (Sept. 21): Maddi Smith had nine kills and 10 serves received for Caston in a road win over Argos Sept. 21. Smith and Isabel Scales had five aces each. North White def. Caston, 23-25, 25-15, 21-25, 25-23, 15-11 (Sept. 17): Maddi Smith had 10 points and 15 kills for Caston in a loss to host North White Sept. 17.
Isabel Scales and Abby Williamson led in blocks, and Delaney Lowry led in assists, according to coach Melinda Shultz.
“Annie Harsh stepped in and played a good game as a setter too,” Shultz said in a statement.
Caston goes 1-2 at Triton Invite (Sept. 12): The Caston volleyball team went 1-2 at the Triton Invitational Sept. 12. The Lady Comets lost to Triton 2-0, lost to Bremen 2-0 and beat Culver 2-0.

Caston def. Winamac, 25-21, 25-16 (JV, Sept. 10): Alexa Finke had 14 points, and Haley Logan had 10 points for the Caston JV in a home win over Winamac Sept. 10.
Logan and Carington Calisto led in digs and serves received, Annie Harsh led in assists, Alexa Finke and Macee Hinderlider led in kills, and Tayler Shafer led in blocks, according to coach Melinda Shultz.
Boys soccer
Caston 5, Oregon-Davis 2 (Tuesday): Rowan Jellison had a hat trick, and Brayden Breed had a goal and an assist for the visiting Comets in a win over Oregon-Davis Tuesday.
Colby Pugh also had a goal. Alexander Hernandez had two assists.
Caston led 2-1 at halftime.
“We played a sloppy first half despite being ahead all match,” Caston coach Narciso Sanchez said in a statement. “We weren’t all completely dialed in. We were slow to aerial balls and 50/50 challenges. And we let O-D run into our defensive third without any real defensive pressure. We played better in the second half, finally connecting passes and finishing with goals.”
Culver 3, Caston 2 (Sept. 21): Dalton Powell and Damien Byers scored in the final four minutes to turn around a 2-1 deficit and give Culver the Hoosier North road win Sept. 21.
Ashton Macedonio also scored for Culver on a penalty kick. Wyatt Ringer had an assist.
Brayden Breed and Rowan Jellison had goals for Caston. Breed’s goal came on a penalty kick.
“Unfortunate loss, we need to do a better job in counters and quick set pieces,” Caston coach Narciso Sanchez said in a statement. “Credit to Culver. We hope to see them again in sectionals.”
Caston 2, North Miami 0 (Sept. 15): Rowan Jellison scored both Caston goals in a road win over sectional rival North Miami.
Noah Rogers and Brayden Breed had one assist each. Bailey Zimpleman had six saves for the shutout.
“We were more successful controlling the ball today,” Caston coach Narciso Sanchez said. “Our back four and holding mids saw a lot of the ball mid-pitch. We were able to finally break down North Miami on two crosses from the wings; however, we kept trying to force balls up the middle with little success for too much of the game. Overall, a solid win for the team.”
Caston 0, Lakeland Christian 0 (Sept. 12): The visiting Comets settled for a scoreless tie with Lakeland Christian Sept. 12.
“I feel like the team did a better job of moving the ball through the phases of the pitch today,” Caston coach Narciso Sanchez said. “We definitely saw more passes connecting between our backs, mids and forwards this afternoon. We got caught in a few counters that were troublesome and luckily none ended with us conceding a goal.”
Junior high soccer
Logansport Columbia 4, Caston 0 (Sept. 21): Braeden Dausman had three saves in the first half, and Dominick Wolfe had three saves in the second half for the Caston Junior High soccer team in a loss to a team of sixth- and seventh-graders from Logansport Columbia Sept. 21.
North Miami 6, Caston 1 (Sept. 17): Jan Aguilar scored the lone Caston goal in a home loss to the North Miami Junior High Club Sept. 17. Braeden Dausman had three saves, including one on a penalty kick. Dominick Wolfe had one save.
North Miami led 4-1 at halftime.
Caston 9, Delphi 1 (Sept. 12): Jan Aguilar had a hat trick and also dished out an assist for the visiting Comets in a win over Delphi Sept. 12.
Brock Hook had two goals, and Drew McGrew, Braeden Dausman, Myles Sherrick and Reed Sommers added one goal each.
Zach Rogers had an assist.
Caston led 4-0 at halftime.
Caston 8, Carroll (Flora) 3 (Sept. 10): Jan Aguilar scored four goals, Zach Rogers had two goals, and Brock Hook and Braeden Dausman had one goal each for the visiting junior high Comets in a win over Carroll Sept. 10.

Junior high volleyball
Caston def. North Miami, 25-9, 25-11 (6th grade, Thursday): Jada Martz had 21 points, including three aces, and Ariyana Kahlmorgan had 10 points and four aces for the Caston sixth-graders in a win over North Miami Thursday.
Caston lost the fifth grade match to the Lady Warriors 25-15, 25-12. Hadlie Coffing had four points for the Lady Comets.
Caston def. Winamac, 25-14, 25-7 (6th grade, Sept. 21): Jada Martz had 21 points, and Ariyana Kahlmorgan had five for the Caston sixth-graders in a win over Winamac Sept. 21. All six Caston players had at least one point.
Wabash def. Caston, 25-23, 25-15 (6th grade, Sept. 17): Jada Martz had nine points, and Ariyana Kahlmorgan had six for Caston in a home loss to Wabash Sept. 17.
Wabash also won the fifth grade match 20-25, 25-8, 15-1.
Rochester def. Caston, 25-11, 25-16 (6th grade, Sept. 14): Jada Martz had five points, and Aubrey Gearhart had two points for the Caston sixth-graders in a loss to Rochester Sept. 14.
RMS also won the fifth grade match 25-22, 25-9. Allison Craig, Aubrey Long, Callie Salisbury and Grace Colvin all had points for the Lady Comet fifth-graders.
Pioneer def. Caston, 18-25, 25-7, 25-5 (6th grade, Sept. 10): Jada Martz led Caston with nine points, and Ariyana Kahlmorgan had five points for Caston in a sixth grade home loss to Pioneer Sept. 10.
Pioneer also won the fifth grade match 25-23, 25-13. Callie Salisbury had five points, and Hadlie Coffing had four points for Caston.
