J. McCuen: 2 hits at plate, 3 ⅓ scoreless innings of relief for Cavs

Culver 4, Argos 2 (Thursday): Jonas McCuen had a pair of doubles at the plate, and he struck out 10 in 3 ⅓ innings on the mound as the Culver baseball team defeated Argos in a Class 1A, Sectional 50 quarterfinal at the LaCrosse baseball field Thursday.
Caleb McCuen, twin brother Jonas and Hayden Parker combined to strike out 20 Argos batters while pitching a two-hitter.
Caleb McCuen allowed one hit and two earned runs in 2 ⅔ innings. He walked six and struck out eight. Jonas McCuen pitched 3 ⅓ hitless innings with a walk, a hit batter and 10 strikeouts, and he got the win. Parker pitched a scoreless seventh with two strikeouts for the save.
Jonas McCuen also had a pair of doubles at the plate, and Parker had a single and a triple. Reese Herrell and Derek McKee each had a hit and an RBI, and Caleb McCuen also had an RBI.
Sophomore Brady Montgomery had both Argos hits.
Jackson Kindig took the loss in his prep finale, allowing six hits and four runs (three earned). He walked four and struck out seven.
Culver won their third straight game and improved to 4-15-1. They will play either Marquette Catholic or Westville in the semifinals at noon Eastern Saturday.
The sectional final is set for noon Eastern Monday.
Argos finished 0-19.
