Culver sports briefs: Football games vs. South Central, Knox canceled

Volleyball beats LaCrosse in 4 behind Berndt, Pearl

Football

The Culver football team canceled its football games against South Central (Union Mills) Friday and Knox Sept. 3, per an email from Culver coach and athletic director Mike Zehner Thursday.

No reason for the cancellation was given in the email.

The website jimpeterspreps.com reported that the games were canceled “due to COVID issues at Culver.”

Culver’s next game is at West Central at 7 p.m. Sept. 10.

Volleyball

Culver def. LaCrosse, 23-25, 25-19, 25-9, 25-21 (Wednesday): Brynn Berndt had nine kills and nine assists, and Maegan Pearl had 16 digs for the visiting Lady Cavaliers in a win over sectional rival LaCrosse Wednesday.

Chloee Danti had 12 assists. Luci Overmyer had 15 digs. Taylor Darnell had 15 serves received.

Culver improved to 3-4.

Culver goes 1-2 at John Glenn Invite (Saturday): The Culver volleyball team went 1-2 at the John Glenn Invitational Saturday and now stands at 2-3 on the season.

Culver lost to Oregon-Davis 2-0, beat South Bend Career Academy 2-0 and lost to John Glenn 2-0.

Girls soccer

Bremen 5, Culver 3 (Monday): Kaylee Hamilton, Giselle Villegas and Kassidy Banks each scored for Culver in a home loss to sectional rival Bremen Monday. Kaylee Hamilton and Maddy Hamilton had one assist each.

Sophia Heath had eight saves in goal.

Bremen led 2-1 at halftime.

Culver 7, North Miami 0 (Saturday): Kaylee Hamilton had three goals and an assist, and Giselle Villegas had two goals for the host Lady Cavaliers in a win over sectional rival North Miami Saturday.

Kassidy Banks and Olivia Compton each had a goal and an assist. Maddy Hamilton had an assist.

Sophia Heath and Katie Schouten combined for two saves in goal for the shutout.

Culver had a 23-2 advantage in shots on goal.

Culver 9, Peru 0 (Aug. 18): Kaylee Hamilton had two goals and two assists, and Giselle Villegas also scored twice for the visiting Lady Cavaliers in a win over Peru Aug. 18.

Abbi Kisela, Kassidy Banks, Mackenzie Banks, Maddy Hamilton and Myah Maroules each had a goal.

Olivia Compton, Kassidy Banks and Maddy Hamilton each had an assist.

Culver had a 22-2 advantage in shots on goal. Sophia Heath had two saves for Culver.

Girls golf

Culver 244, Pioneer (incomplete team) (Aug. 23): A.J. Hinds fired a 54 to earn medalist honors and lead Culver past an incomplete Pioneer team at Pond View Golf Course in Star City Monday.

Kaitlyn Stacy added a 57, Sylvia Rodriquez had a 64, and Addison Crippen had a 69 for Culver.

Emilie Schmaltz had a 55 for Pioneer.

Sylvia Rodriquez and EmmaLee Hillman each carded a 65, and Addison Crippen had a 69.

Marquette Catholic’s Camrynn Newenhouse was the medalist with a 54.
